Home Energy Audits - Templar Environmental Services
Energy Audit
At Templar, we focus on providing solutions that improve the efficiency, safety, and comfort of your home. As a part of our extensive environmental services, we also offer our energy audits for our customers. An energy audit, also called an energy evaluation, is when an auditor performs a thorough inspection of your home to determine its energy efficiency. They will also identify opportunities and upgrades that will help improve your score.
Why It’s Important to Improve Your Home's Energy Efficiency
The more energy-efficient your home is, the more money you’ll save on your energy bills. However, reducing your energy costs isn’t the only reason to invest in a more energy-efficient home. The following are a few other benefits:
Improve home comfort – If less heat and cool air are escaping your home and less outdoor air is entering, it makes it easier for your HVAC system to keep your home at its desired settings, thereby making it more comfortable.
Increase property value – Energy efficiency is at the top of most buyers’ want lists. This is because they are calculating the long-term costs of owning a home when making their decision. Additionally, more and more buyers are becoming environmentally aware and are looking for eco-friendly homes.
Reduce environmental impact – Simply lowering the amount of energy you use goes a long way towards reducing your carbon footprint.
What Does an Energy Audit Involve?
The following is a step-by-step breakdown of what to expect when scheduling an energy audit:
Preparing for the audit – The auditor will ask you a series of questions to find out if your home is habitable, to make sure it’s not under renovations, that it’s accessible, and that all openings are sealed.
The audit – The audit should take around three hours. The auditor will use a blower door test and infrared scanning to identify any air leaks. They will also evaluate the efficiency of your insulation and HVAC system, among other things.
The results – You’ll be provided with a full report that compares your home’s efficiency with that of other houses. It will also include recommendations to improve your energy efficiency in various ways.
The follow-up – If you follow the advice provided in your report, you can request a follow-up afterward to see how your results have improved and ensure you qualify for all applicable rebates.
Available Incentives for Ontario Homeowners
Besides reducing your energy costs and improving your home value, you may also be able to save some money on any improvements you make via energy efficiency incentives for homeowners in Ontario.
Home Efficiency Rebate – Up to $5,000 in rebates for insulation, furnaces, boilers, water heaters, new windows, new doors, air sealing, and energy audits.
Home Winterproofing Program – Free insulation, smart thermostat, and draft proofing for those that qualify (based on income levels).
Smart Thermostat Discount – $75 discount on a smart thermostat that can be redeemed at the time of purchase.
